Music Video - Third Cut

Target Audience Feedback:

We showed our third cut to more people from our target demographic. As with the second cut, the feedback was very positive. The pictures below are of Kayvon showing some of our friends the video on his iPhone. Again, people commented on the fun atmosphere and the colourful backgrounds and said they felt the band had a strong identity.

We also had a set of question that we asked people once they had watched the video. Mahalia took note of some of the responses. In general, people reacted to the video how we had expected and they understood what the video was saying and how it related to the song. The questions we asked were:
  • What genre of music is this video for?
  • Who is the target audience?
  • What is the message being conveyed by the video?
  • Favourite part of the video?
  • Worst part of the video?
  • How would you describe the band?

Feedback from the target audience

One issue that was brought up was that the video lacked an ending and that the fade didn't really work. To fix this, we decided we would extend the last shot and add a title with the name of the band and that song.
Changes in this cut:
The third cut is pretty similar to the second cut. By the time we finished the second cut, the video looked quite close to how we wanted it to but there were still some changes that we wanted to make, partly through our own observations and partly because of feedback that we had received. There were two main things that we wanted to change. The first was that we wanted the confetti section of the video to have a quicker pace. The cuts in our second version of the video were too short and it felt a bit sluggish. Secondly, we wanted to include more MCUs of me and Alice. Some really useful feedback that we recieved was that we introduce the MCUs at the start of the video but that, since we want to take out the MCUs with the 3D glasses, they don't show up again for the rest of the video which was a bit strange. Therefore, we decided to try and put in some more MCUs of me and Alice throughout the video.
  • Replaced second shot because 30 degree rule was broken
  • Replaced shot at 0:19 since we moved the original shot to the start of the video
  • Replaced shot at 0:44 with moving shot and added shot of Alice, rearranging things so it looks smoother with more variation between shots
  • Got rid of popcorn MCUs and added MCU of Alice and Kayvon
  • Added MCU of me at 1:14
  • Popcorn shot at 1:28 rearranged so she lifts it off her head and the original shot is shorter
  • Jump cut at 1:36 to add pace
  • MCU of me added at 1:43
  • MCU of Alice added at 2:06
  • Changed shots and rearranged at 2:15
  • Balloon LS was taken out because no logo on the drums and bad performance
  • Added the shots of me on the floor with confetti
  • Changed the final shot

In terms of shot choices and order, this cut of the video is extremely close to the final version. We may change one or two shots if we decide later that it needs to be done but I am very happy with the video as it is and, based on the very positive feedback that we got on this cut, I doubt we will need to change anything else.
