3-Piece Bands

We were not thinking about how our band would be arranged on the set and decided to look at some other videos from 3-piece bands for inspiration. Andrew Goodwin said that there are conventions that are followed within music videos of certain genres. We decided to do some research into the indie rock genre to see if there were any conventional setups that 3-piece bands tend to follow. The images below are from music videos of the rock and indie rock genres.

Band of Skulls - Nightmares
Biffy Clyro - Mountains
Blink 182 - All the Small Things
Green Day - Basket Case
Muse - Uprising

Overall we found that the way they are arranged is pretty generic. The lead singer/guitarist is positioned at the front. The bassist will be close beside them if they are a significant part of the band (eg. backup singing) or a bit behind them if they are not. The drummer is always at the back in the centre.

We are going to conform to this by having the drums at the back and the two other band members beside each other at the front. We want Alice to be noticeable as the bassist so she will be level with Kayvon as opposed to further back. We are also thinking about messing around with this positioning and swapping the positions round for some of the shots. This is not something that we have thought properly about yet.
