Our band is an indie 3-piece group called Pilgrim that consists of Kayvon as the lead singer and guitarist, Alice as the bassist and me as the drummer. The name Pilgrim is a reference to the Scott Pilgrim franchise. The comics and the film are very popular among indie fans so the name will appeal to them. We want to emphasise the fact that we have a female bassist and we want a strong focus on the friendship between the band members to reflect the theme of the song. Kayvon and I both play guitar and I play drums so we can learn the song and play along with it when filming to make it seem more genuine. Alice also plays classical guitar and will have no problem learning the bassline.
Originally this band was going to consist of me, Kayvon and our friend, Josh, as we all get along well and are comfortable in front of a camera. We hoped that this chemistry would be obvious in our video and make it feel genuine. We found two problems with this. Firstly, a 3-piece indie band consisting of 3 white males is extremely generic and would not stand out in any way from all the other white male 3-piece indie bands in the music industry. Also, Josh is not in our group and having him in our video would complicate things. Replacing Josh with Alice is good because it makes us stand out a bit and also keeps everything within our group, simplifying shooting schedules.
